Sandboxie Description

Size: 1.8 MB License: End User License Agreement Price: Free / Paid Versions

When you install or run programs on your PC you are inadvertently affecting other parts of the system without even realising it.

The thinking behind the Sandboxie application is really simple; it gives you a secure, cordoned off area of your computer's system to isolate programs. This brings with it 4 big benefits.

1. Windows doesn't get messed up over time. As you install and uninstall programs to your PC it can lead to problems on the hard drive. Sandboxie avoids this be making sure that the isolated area is where new software is placed.

2. Secure internet use. When you use this utility any malware which you come across is contained safely within the sandbox and you can delete it without it getting the chance to affect the entire system.

3. No email viruses. This is the same idea as with the previous one; malicious programs can't get out and cause problems in your PC.

4. Better privacy. All of your internet browsing history, temporary files and history is stored in the secure area rather than being on Windows.

Once you download it and get started the interface is very clean and simple and you can operate most of the features from the Sandboxie control option which is added to both your taskbar and start menu. Running the tutorial the first time you get started isn't essential but you might like to have a look at it to fully understand all of the features.

You can download Sandboxie for free but after a month you will be asked to upgrade to the paid version and register it. This currently costs ?29 Euros for a lifetime home license or ?13 for a one year home use license. You can carry on using the free version after the first 30 days but paying the price gives you some extra features such as the Forced Programs and Forced Folders facilities.
